Compact Hatchback · what it costs new, what it’s worth used, and who has one near you.

The 2018 Kia Rio is a compact hatchback we track across the used market in Canada. It comes in gas (7.8 L/100 km) and hybrid (6.6 L/100 km) forms, so the main choice is fuel — the hybrid earns its premium back over enough kilometres. A 22-year-old one keeps roughly 5% of a current model's market price — what actually matters over five years of ownership.

Most-reported problems
Across 27 owner complaints filed on the 2018 Kia Rio
Share of complaints naming each system — a signal of what owners report most on this model, not a failure rate. The denominator is people who filed a complaint, not every owner. Complaints are filed with the US regulator; the same models are sold in Canada.
Safety recalls
1 campaign issued by the manufacturer
Latches/locks/linkages · Trunk Lid · Latch
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Forte 4-door, Forte Koup 2-door, and 2018-2019 Rio 4-door vehicles. The trunk latch may become damaged, preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 401, "Internal Trunk Release."
Campaign 21V622000
Recall campaigns are manufacturer-issued and fixed free of charge. This is the US campaign set matched by year, make and model — it is not a check against a specific VIN, and Canadian campaigns may differ.
